Aug 8, 2012
August may mark that the end of summer is approaching, but for us San Diegan's it is one of the hottest months of the year! These 5 Sun-Protecting tips will not only help you beat the August heat, but will keep you protected from harmful UV rays all year round!
1. Protect with SPF! Sunscreen isn’t just for a day at the beach; a Broad-Spectrum, water resistant sunscreen should be worn every day, no matter the weather! Don’t forget your feet, nose, and ears, or to reapply every 2 hours! All of COOLA’s formulations, Classic, Mineral, and Plant UV, guarantee broad-spectrum protection from both UVA and UVB rays, and with 18 different products to choose from, you are sure to find the right fit for you!
2. Wear the Right Accessories!
Hat- Check! Sunglasses- Check! … but be sure to look for UV protection on sunglass labels before buying. Skip sunglasses that are labeled “cosmetic” or that don’t offer any details on sun protection. And make sure you grab a wide brim hat. This will protect the ears and neck better than a baseball cap!
3. Seek Shade!
Avoid direct contact with the sun between 10am-4pm, even if it’s hazy out. This is when the sun’s harmful rays are the strongest and most damaging! During this time seek refuge with beach umbrellas, shady spots under trees, and dark colored, tightly woven clothing!
4. Drink Lots of Water!
According to the Institute of Medicine most adults need an average of 10-15 cups of water a day, so grab your reusable water bottle and keep filling. h2o will keep you hydrated on those hot days and is also great for your skin!
5. Don’t Forget your Lips!
While most remember to cover their face and body with SPF, it is important to make sure your lips are (properly) sealed! Our COOLA LipLux is not only the best SPF Lip Balm in its class, but it is our personal favorite! (and we’re not being biased!)
